Let’s Achieve Something Great Together 11 – Set Backs & Routine.

Having turned 40 recently and then not long after being struck down by the flu (where I was bed ridden for the best part of a week) it’s not surprising that I’ve gotten behind with my painting. Being ill has been a blessing in that it forced me to rest and in the end rewarded me with some effective thinking time. As an independent artist, currently representing myself, it can be quite daunting making artwork in the face of an unpredictable future. Time spent making art is time spent away from looking for the next opportunity, blogging, tweeting and all that side of things. Conversely, time spent doing all those things is time away from making art. We tend to put ourselves under a lot of pressure, particularly when there are bills to pay! Making art under these conditions is a learning curve that I am still climbing. For me, I don’t seem to respond to a routine or more accurately a self-imposed routine. There is a flow to my artistic activities that I am learning to tap into and allow to happen, rather than anticipating what I should be doing or achieving.

Here’s a few more pictures of my painting in progress. The next post in this series should be the reveal of the finished painting!
