Let’s Achieve Something Great Together 6 – Layers, Trust & Patience.

When creating a painting of this type, it is very tempting to try to achieve a finished look very early on in its development. For many painters the process of painting is one of layering (painting and repainting), where the image becomes increasingly ingrained in the artist’s eye. In effect the artist lives and breathes the piece of artwork until it is finished. The layers of paint represent stages of decision-making as well as intense and relaxed looking. The process being obviously cyclic. The artist has to constantly and intentionally throw themselves into this process, which is very much a world of unknowns. Characteristics such as trust (in oneself), patience and a working amount of confidence propel the work forwards, creating something that previously had no physical reality. Inevitably whatever work an artist or anyone else for that matter produces will say something about themselves.
