Thought/Action/Inspiration – a few thoughts on the cyclic process of making art

I find the enjoyment of making artwork lies in the moments of creation that are sometimes spontaneous and sometimes deeply considered. These moments of creation can be amongst others, actions of the hand during drawing or painting as well as the result of thought, such as ideas or concepts. Such moments are fleeting and in general, making artwork takes a lot of time and effort to produce. So for me I have to find value in the making, in the journey towards completion. These journeys I make are sustained through inspiration from various sources, and so they nourish themselves. In other words, making art leads to more moments of creation and inspiration, which feeds back into the process as it evolves. As an artist, this is what I do on a daily basis. The outcomes, the so-called finished pieces take on a new life by creating a dialogue for me to respond to within this continuous stream of production.
